Rosette Baby Blanket DIY

Baby girl has approximately 4,379 blankets already, but when I saw this fabric on sale at Joann’s I really just couldn’t resist making another one!

I think it turned out so cute, and it was so easy I finished the entire blanket in one night.

That’s my kind of sewing project.

First, grab your favorite fabrics. I used this pink rosette fabric I found at Joann’s and some leftover ivory minky I had from another project. I bought my minky fabric from fabric.com here. I’m sure you could also find it at Joann’s, and they have coupons ALL the time.

Now lay your fabrics together and smooth them out as much as possible.

Cut them to the same size.

Now make sure your pieces are right sides toward one another and start PINNING LIKE CRAZY. (Right sides are the sides of the fabric that are going to be what you can see and touch when the blanket is finished). So if the right sides are against each other like they should be in this step, you should be looking at the side that will eventually be on the inside of your blanket. Now I safety pinned the middle of my fabric AND pinned around the outsides before I sewed it. I didn’t want that fabric moving anywhere.

Now sew around the edges using a 1/4 to 1/2 inch seam allowance. Do not sew all the way around to where you started! Make sure to leave a gap about six inches long so you can turn your blanket right side out.

Unpin all your safety pins, and make sure to snip all four corners of your blanket so they lay nicely once its turned right side out.

Now turn your blanket right side out, and sew up the hole using a blind stitch.

This next part is completely up to you. You can either be finished right here, or you can do what I did and tie it off. I didn’t want to see the little pieces of small yarn sticking out everywhere, so I went in through the middle of some of the rosettes, tied it, and cut the tails small enough that they just blended right into the minky. You would never know that I tied it off, but the blanket now stays together REALLY nicely.

See? No sign that I ever tied this this quilt off.

I love it! I can’t wait to wrap my baby girl in it.

Only 12 days ’til my due date!

Wish me luck.
