Chocolate Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Frosting and Candy

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Halloween has never really been my FAVORITE holiday per say, but now I have kids and it’s like new life has been breathed into me about how fun this holiday can be.

I pretty much only liked Halloween before because it was the beginning of the holiday season and I LOOOOVE the holiday season.

Maybe it’s because I don’t love candy. Even as a kid, I would stash my Halloween candy away for a time when I REEEEEALLLY wanted it… and then that time would never come. In fact by the next Halloween, I usually had to dig my bag out from under my bed and dump out all of last year’s loot to make room to start the ritual all over again.

Then I grew up and discovered my love for baking and throwing candy into a batch of cookie dough. Now this whole new world has been opened up to me. Halloween is officially awesome.

These cupcakes are awesome. This peanut butter frosting is awesome. Everything is awesome. I wanted the frosting to be creamy and still taste mostly like peanut butter instead of being overpoweringly sweet.

I’m not going to lie to you guys… I think I nailed it. And I think all of you are going to love it.

These cupcakes are my go-to double chocolate cupcake recipe. I’ve had a hard time veering away from this classic because it turns out so good EVERY TIME. It uses a boxed cake mix, (I know, some people think those are the devil) but I can’t shake the ease and they are moist and flavorful and all around awesome.

Then I sprinkled some chopped up candies on there because yeah. This is Halloween after all and in true Taylor fashion, I dug up last year’s haul from it’s hiding spot and used up all that old candy to make room for some new Halloween candy to just sit there for the next year.

Traditions are fun.

You can use any assortment of candy that you still have from last Halloween sounds good to you. I chopped up some fun size snickers bars, milky ways and peanut butter cups. I also think Butterfingers would be especially awesome but those are a pretty high demand item in the ol’ candy bucket. Just make sure when you’re checking the candy this year that you set aside one or two of those little gold nuggets as tax. Welcome to adulthood, kids.

For Halloween this year Baby Girl is dressing up as Super Girl and I wanted Girlfriend to be a tiny Batgirl sidekick or something but then I got really tired and lost all motivation. So she’s a ladybug.

Don’t get me wrong… she is an ADORABLE ladybug, but seriously if it wasn’t for Famous Julie picking the costume up for me, Girlfriend might have been a sack of potatoes for Halloween this year.

That probably would have been hilarious actually.

Hopefully next year I’ll have the time or energy to make a cute family theme costume because those are my FAVORITE. I wait very impatiently every year to see what all my Facebook friends come up with. I have talented friends, guys. I should make them come up with my family’s costumes.
